Chinese support to build a new central hospital in Maputo

The Chinese Government plans to support the construction of a new central hospital in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reports.

The plan to build a replacement for the ageing current hospital was discussed during the visit of Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Su Jian in November, the health unit announced in its most recent newsletter.

Health, education, agriculture are the priority areas of China’s international cooperation with Africa in the next few years, Mr Su was quoted as saying. “We are interested in supporting the construction of a new hospital [in Maputo],” he said.

Both sides have agreed to begin preparing the necessary conditions for building a replacement for the more-than-50-year-old facility and pacts will be signed soon to get the project underway.
