Chinese visitors to Portugal now venturing off beaten track

Portuguese Secretary of State for Tourism Ana Mendes Godinho has said Chinese are now visiting more parts of Portugal than they used to, the Macau Daily Times reports.

The Macao newspaper quotes Ms Godinho as saying during a visit to the city that Chinese visitors are venturing beyond Lisbon and Porto into the Algarve and into the old city of Évora in Alentejo.

Some 15 percent more Chinese have visited the Algarve so far this year than in the equivalent period last year, and China is now the third-biggest market for tourists visiting Évora, the Macau Daily Times quotes Ms Godinho as saying.

During her visit to Macao Ms Godinho and representatives of Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) discussed improvement of the exchange programme for students of IFT and Portuguese tourism schools.
