Chinese workers ready to start work on Guinea-Bissau’s first highway

A 16-kilometre road connecting Bissau to Safim in Guinea-Bissau will be the country’s first highway and be built with help from Mainland China, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reports.

China’s Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Wang Hua, said US$14.48 million was set aside to finance the works and a team had been sent to Bissau to undertake preliminary work.

Approval for the six–lane highway was required before work could start, the report says.

The memorandum to build the highway was signed at the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) held in October, the report says.
