CMEC, GE join hands to develop Mozambican power station

China Machinery Engineering Corp (CMEC), General Electric Co (GE) of the United States and Mozambican coal miner Ncondezi Energy Ltd of have agreed to get together to build a 300MW power station in northern Mozambique, NetEase reports.

The Chinese news website, without citing any source, says the facility will be the first big coal-fired power station in Mozambique.

The report says the project will spur the development of the economy of northern Mozambique by facilitating the exploitation of oil and gas resources there, without explaining how a coal-fired power station would do that.

CMEC and GE will begin as soon as possible to apply their experience and resources to building the power station, NetEase says.
