COFCO Group opens international service centre in Portugal

Chinese processor of food COFCO Group has opened an international service centre in the Portuguese city of Matosinhos on Friday, the Chinese Embassy in Lisbon has announced.

The embassy issued a written statement saying Chinese Ambassador to Portugal Cai Run, Portuguese Secretary of State for Economic Affairs João Correia Neves and COFCO International Chairman Chi Jingtao attended the opening ceremony.

The statement says the centre will create employment for hundreds of people in the areas of information technology, procurement, human resources and finance, and facilitate COFCO’s international trade in grains, oils, sugar and cotton, logistics, storage and processing.

The opening of the centre is the outcome of an agreement struck by COFCO Group and the Portuguese trade and investment agency when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Portugal in December last year, the statement says.

The centre will help build up the Sino-Portuguese economic relationship, the Chinese Embassy in Lisbon says.
