Consultants forecast 3.7 pct growth in Mozambique in 2019

IHS Markit Consultants forecasts that gross domestic product in Mozambique will grow by 3.7 percent this year as inflation there remains tame, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes a note issued by the British compiler of market data as saying the Mozambican economic environment will be benign as long as the general election in October is peaceful.

The note says slow inflation may let the Mozambican central bank lower its main interest rate to 12 percent this year from 15 percent now.

Higher prices for raw materials and a strong inflow of investment mean the Mozambican currency will weaken only slightly against the US dollar this year, Lusa quotes IHS Markit Consultants as saying.
