A director of Portuguese electricity generator Energias de Portugal SA (EDP) says his company and its major shareholder, China Three Gorges Corp. (CTG), are looking for hydroelectric projects in Mozambique to invest in, Lusa reports.
The Portuguese news agency quotes EDP Internationalisation Director João Marques da Cruz as saying his company and EDP have started a joint venture called Hydro Global to invest in hydroelectric projects.
Mr Marques da Cruz said Mozambique was a leading candidate for such investment because of its potential as a source of hydroelectric power and its links to South Africa.
Hydro Global hopes to complete in the next few weeks an investment in a hydroelectric project in Colombia, having invested last September in a hydroelectric project in Peru, Lusa says.
