EDP to invest in offshore wind farms in the United States

Energias de Portugal SA (EDP) Chief Executive António Mexia has said the electricity company will invest in wind farms off the coasts of the United States, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Mexia as saying in an interview that his company intends to have floating wind turbines off both coasts of the United States.

Lusa also quotes the executive as saying on the sidelines of an international meeting that EDP will begin selling electricity to consumers in Texas this year.

EDP already has 45 onshore wind farms in the United States, and is now investing in solar farms there, Lusa says.

China Three Gorges Corp. owns a controlling stake in EDP.
