Envoy hails new phase of Sino-Brazilian economic engagement

Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Li Jinzhang has said the economic relationship between his country and Brazil, including their trade, is entering a new stage where adding high value and high technology play a more important part.

The Chinese Embassy in Brasilia issued a written statement quoting Mr Li as saying so in a seminar in the Brazilian city of São Paulo which was jointly arranged by three notable Brazilian institutions.

Mr Li said more and more Chinese financial companies, including insurers, were entering the Brazilian market.

He said Chinese investment in Brazil amounted to over US$54 billion.

The ambassador said the value of Sino-Brazilian trade might rise to US$100 billion this year from US$87.5 billion last year.

The opening-up of Chinese markets will mean “enormous opportunities” for countries such as Brazil, The Chinese Embassy quotes Mr Li as saying.
