Chinese Ambassador to Cabo Verde Du Xiaocong has visited Santo Antão for the first time with a view to forging links between his country and the second-biggest island in Cabo Verde, and to prompting co-operation with the municipalities on the island, Inforpress reports.
The Cabo Verde news agency quotes Mr Du as saying Santo Antão has great economic potential, especially as a draw for tourists.
Mr Du, who was accompanied by Cape Verdean Minister of Health and Social Security, Arlindo do Rosário, said his embassy was willing to contribute to the development of healthcare and education on the island.
The Chinese Embassy is supporting the rehabilitation of a nursery in Porto Novo, one of the municipalities on Santo Antão, Inforpress quotes Porto Novo Mayor Anibal Fonseca as saying.
