Envoy says China open to economic agreements with Brazil

Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming has said his country is open to negotiating agreements with Brazil on trade, investment protection and double taxation, Bloomberg reports.

The news agency quotes Mr Yang as describing Sino-Brazilian relations as mature, stable, healthy and dynamic.

He said the new government in Brasilia had made its intentions clear.“It will follow the spirit of contract law and the guidance of the market to promote even more trade and investment between Brazil and China,” he said.

The report says the value of Sino-Brazilian merchandise trade last year was US$113 billion, and that China has invested over US$70 billion in infrastructure in Brazil, and in the logistics, farming and energy industries there.

Chinese enterprises are expected to bid for companies the Brazilian government means to sell, and to compete for the contracts for infrastructure projects, Bloomberg says.
