Envoy says importance of Macao as business conduit growing

Chinese Ambassador to Portugal Cai Run has said the functions of Macao as a bridge between China and Portugal and as a place where China and the lusophone world can conduct business have grown in importance in recent years, the Macao SAR Government says.

The government issued a written statement quoting Mr Cai as telling Macao Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, who is visiting Portugal, that the Macao government and Macao enterprises have undertaken many projects in Portugal in recent years.

Mr Cai said the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area had attracted attention in Portugal, which held out the promise of greater co-operation by Macao and Portugal in developing the area.

Mr Chui told Mr Cai that he hoped he and his entourage could learn from the experience of Portugal in fostering young entrepreneurs, and that Macao and Portugal could arrange more exchanges with the purpose of nurturing entrepreneurship among the young, the Macao SAR Government says.
