Tickets for fado singer Cuca Roseta’s concert at Tsinghua University in Beijing sold out in one hour, in spite of Chinese unfamiliarity with the Portuguese traditional music genre called fado, Lusa reports.
The Portuguese news agency says Ms Roseta, accompanied by three guitarists, sang to a full house on Sunday, her performance including several songs made famous by fado divas such as Amália Rodrigues.
The fado concert was only the second ever held at a Chinese university.
Lusa quotes an unidentified Chinese journalist as saying the fado genre is relatively unknown among Chinese audiences.
