Green light for Portuguese exports of pork to China

The deal that will allow pork from Portugal to be sold in China has been signed by representatives of the two countries, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Portuguese Agriculture Minister Luís Capoulas Santos as saying: “We are aware that we are a small supplier in that vast market, but what may be small for the Chinese market is very important for the Portuguese market.”

The report says the agreement does not cover processed pork products, such as sausages.

But this may change, as negotiations about the export to China of Portuguese processed pork products, citrus fruit, grapes, apples, pears, honey and even horses are continuing, Lusa says.
