Guinea-Bissau economy to grow at least 6 pct in 2016

The economy of Guinea-Bissau would expand by a minimum of 6 percent in 2016, the African country’s National Bureau of Statistics said last week.

Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported that the forecast assumed exports of cashew nuts would be at optimal levels. The agricultural commodity is the nation’s main export.

The statistics bureau said Guinea-Bissau would export more than 200,000 tons of cashew nuts this year, compared with 170,000 tons in the previous year. India and China were the main markets for the product, it added.

According to Xinhua, the African nation posted a 4.7-percent year-on-year growth in its economy in 2015.
