Guinea-Bissau to increase cashew exports by 11pct

Guinea-Bissau aims to increase this season its exports of cashew nut by 11 percent from 2015, news agency Reuters reported this week.

The report quoted the Guinean Prime Minister, Carlos Correia, mentioning the African nation plans to export at least 200,000 tonnes of its cashew harvest this season. Mr Correia was speaking at the launch of the harvesting season, which runs from April to September.

According to Reuters, India is the biggest customer for Guinea-Bissau cashew. But the African country is expected this season to increase the amount it sells to China and Vietnam.

Guinea-Bissau set the 2016 farm gate cashew price paid to farmers at 350 CFA francs (US$0.61) per kilo, the report added. That is 40 percent higher than the previous year.
