Huawei to help Cape Verde build US$20-mln urban surveillance system

Representatives of the government of Cape Verde and China’s Huawei Technologies have signed in Beijing an agreement to co-operate on building a US$20 million urban surveillance system, Inforpress reports.

The Cape Verdean news agency says

the project, called Safe Cities, is to install surveillance cameras in important cities next year and set up communications and control centres to go with them.

The report quotes the Ministry of Internal Affairs as saying the system could reduce crime in cities such as Praia and Mindelo, and make Cape Verde safer for tourists.
