Lisbon University aiming for branch at Shanghai University

University of Lisbon Rector António Cruz Serra expects his university to do a deal next month to set up a branch at University of Shanghai in China, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Serra as telling a conference in Lisbon that the branch may open in a year or so.

Mr Serra said the branch would concentrate on teaching electrical engineering and civil engineering.

He said Lisbon University would run the branch academically and administratively, and take charge of 30 percent of the teaching there.

The language of instruction will be English, but the branch will also teach its students Portuguese as a mandatory subject, Lusa quotes the rector as saying.
