Macao tapped to link lusophone world to Belt and Road scheme

Chinese Vice-minister of Commerce Qian Keming has said his government will help Macao involve the Portuguese-speaking Countries in the Chinese Belt and Road initiative, the Macao Daily News reports.

The newspaper quotes Mr Qian as telling a news conference in Beijing on Saturday that Macao and the lusophone world will take part in the initiative together, building the infrastructure envisaged together and benefiting from it together.

The report quotes Mr Qian as saying his government will keep backing the efforts of Macao to strengthen its links to Portuguese-speaking Countries, and to serve as a place where the lusophone world and China can conduct business.

The vice-minister considers the city an important gateway to the outside world for China, and an important part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Macao Daily News says.
