Mainland China donates rice worth US$8 mln to cyclone-affected Mozambique

Mainland China will donate rice worth US$8 million to help Mozambique’s recovery efforts in the wake of cyclone Dineo, a tropical storm that killed seven people and affected more than 500,000 people in Inhambane province.

The AIM news agency reports the donation was announced by Guo Jinlong, Beijing’s Communist Party chief, after meeting Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi in Maputo, the capital of the African nation.

Mr Guo said he wanted to promote bilateral co-operation between the Communist Party of China and the Mozambican ruling party Frelimo. The report said the Mainland would continue to expand existing co-operation projects in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure and human resources.
