Mainland China will continue on path towards opening up, says Xi Jinping

Mainland China will maintain its policy of opening up, continual liberalisation and of facilitating trade and investment, President Xi Jinping said yesterday.

His comments were quoted by Xinhua, the state-run news agency, and were made during a panel discussion with lawmakers at the annual session of the National People’s Congress.

“China’s opening door will not close again,” Mr Xi was quoted as saying.

The report stressed the importance of innovation to economic development and supply-side structural reform.

Mr Xi was quoted as calling for greater advances in science and key technologies.

He also urged Shanghai, the home to the Mainland’s first pilot free trade zone, to increase the openness and innovation of its trade zone to serve the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and to help businesses expand overseas.
