Minister sees potential for Sino-Brazilian farm business

Brazilian Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina Dias thinks there is great potential for Sino-Brazilian agricultural business, China having been the biggest buyer of Brazilian farm products in recent years, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency quotes Ms Dias as saying in an interview that China has opened its market wider, and that more and better Brazilian farm products are being offered there.

The report says Brazilian agricultural exports were worth US$102 billion last year, of which nearly 35 percent (US$35.6 billion) were exports to China, mainly of soybeans, beef, chicken and cane sugar.

Over 50 Brazilian enterprises will exhibit at SIAL China, a big food and drink expo in Shanghai next month, Xinhua quotes Ms Dias as saying.

This week Reuters quoted Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming as saying Ms Dias would visit China next month for talks that would cover Chinese permission for more imports of Brazilian meat.
