Monetary authorities in Portugal, Macao, agree to co-operate

The Monetary Authority of Macao, known as AMCM, and the Portuguese central bank, Banco de Portugal, have agreed on a framework for co-operation, AMCM says.

The authority issued a written statement saying AMCM Chairman Benjamin Chan Sau San and Banco de Portugal Governor Carlos da Silva Costa signed the agreement.

AMCM says the agreement provides for periodic dialogue, seminars, conferences, occupational training, joint research and regular meetings of senior figures in each institution.

The authority expects these arrangements to increase Sino-Portuguese co-operation and exchanges of information and personnel, and to enhance the performance by Macao of its function as a place where China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries can conduct financial business, the AMCM says.
