More Sino-Portuguese maritime co-operation in the offing

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said his country is willing to co-operate more with Portugal and third parties in the field of ports and other maritime matters, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency says Mr Wang said so in separate meetings in Lisbon with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister Antonio Costa.

The report quotes Mr Wang as saying he hopes China and Portugal will reach as soon as possible an agreement on co-operation under the auspices of the Chinese Belt and Road initiative.

The minister said China appreciated that Portuguese policy is favourable to Chinese investment, and was willing to encourage more Chinese businesses to invest in Portugal.

Portugal expects Chinese businesses to increase their investment in all areas – in finance, energy, transport, ports and electric vehicles in particular, Xinhua quotes Mr Sousa as saying.
