Mozambican annual growth rate 3.4 pct in first nine months

The Mozambican economy was 3.4 percent bigger in the first nine months of this year than in the corresponding period last year, Lusa reports, citing a figure given to the latest cabinet meeting.

the Portuguese news agency quotes the spokesman for the cabinet, Ana Comoana, as saying the figure shows how the economy is performing better than before.

The report says that last month the Mozambican government reduced its forecast of economic growth this year to 4.1 percent from 5.3 percent, that the World Bank forecasts growth of 3.3 percent and that the International Monetary Fund forecasts growth of 3.5 percent.

The economy expanded by 3.7 percent last year and 3.8 percent the year before, Lusa says.
