Mozambique, China strike five deals in talks in Beijing

Mozambican Foreign Minister José Pacheco has said representatives of Mozambique and China have signed five agreements after talks in Beijing, AIM reports.

The Mozambican state-run news agency quotes Mr Pacheco as saying the agreements were signed on Friday after negotiations between the entourages of Chinese President Xi Jinping and visiting Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi.

Mr Pacheco said China had promised to give technical help for rehabilitation of parts of his country damaged by Cyclone Idai, and to pay for a national surgical centre in Maputo.

The report says Mozambique and China will jointly pursue Chinese One Belt, One Road schemes in Africa, act on undertakings to co-operate announced last year, and start two projects to increase the productive capacity of Mozambique.

The presidents reiterated their interest in closer Sino-Mozambican co-operation, AIM quotes Mr Pacheco as saying.
