The Government of Mozambique is interested in reaching an agreement with Macao’s Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) for the training of tourism industry students and professionals from the African nation, newspaper Jornal Tribuna de Macau reported this week.
“We’ve already expressed to the [IFT] board our interest in establishing a memorandum of understanding, so that our citizens, both students and tourism operators, can benefit from it,” said the Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism of Mozambique, Ana Comoane.
Ms Comoane made her remarks in Macao, on the sidelines of the Seminar of Tourism and MICE between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
The Mozambican Vice Minister explained – as quoted by the newspaper – that the country’s private sector had been voicing some concern regarding the training of human resources for the industry. She added Mozambique had some tourism-related training units, but they were not enough to cope with demand for such services.
During the Seminar, Ms Comoane said the tourism industry in Mozambique was “promising and attractive”. She noted the country had “17 areas with high tourism potential”.
