Mozambique increases minimum wage

The Government of Mozambique on Tuesday announced increases in the country’s minimum wage of between 5.0 percent and 13.5 percent.

Mozambique has different minimum wage levels for different industries.

Discussions on a potential increase in the country’s minimum wage had started on March 6. The changes are effective from April 1.

Kapenta fishing remains the sector with the lowest minimum wage in Mozambique, following the new increases. Workers in this sector are now entitled to a minimum monthly salary of 3,000 meticais (US$81.1), up by 5 percent.

For workers in the microfinance and microinsurance sector, the minimum wage is now 7,800 meticais, up by 7.7 percent. This is the sector with the highest minimum wage in Mozambique.
