Trade between Mozambique and the Chinese province of Jiangsu increased 15.8 percent year-on-year in 2015, to US$209.92 million, the Mozambican newspaper Jornal de Notícias reported this week.

Mozambique’s exports to Jiangsu reached US$46.73 million in 2015, down from US$59 million in 2014, added the news outlet. Goods exported by Jiangsu to Mozambique climbed 39.4 percent in value judged year-on-year, to US$163.19 million, in 2015.

Goods exported from Mozambique to Jiangsu were mainly wood, wooden items, vegetable produce and raw material for the textile industry, the report said.

Machinery, mechanical equipment and vehicle accessories are among the main products acquired by Mozambique in Jiangsu.

The media outlet said the Chinese province has also been co-operating with Mozambique in the field of public health. Jiangsu has sent several medical teams and several shipments of medical supplies to Africa, including some to Mozambique.

“Jiangu will continue to support the African continent in several areas, namely public health – by sending medical teams – [in] trade, and [in] infrastructure development,” said the Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, Luo Zhijun, as quoted by the newspaper.
