Mozambique launches tender for road maintenance

The Mozambique Government has launched a public tender aimed at guaranteeing the maintenance of five of the nation’s roads via public-private partnerships, said the country’s Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Bonete.

The official was speaking this week at the opening of his Ministry’s Second Co-ordinating Council, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

Mr Bonete said – as quoted by the media outlet – the implication of the tender was that toll charges would be introduced on those national roads; most of which have been built recently. He added such a measure was crucial to deal with current maintenance challenges posed by the country’s road network.

The Minister also said that large sums have been invested by Mozambique’s Government to build and maintain roads in the African nation.
