Mozambique PM thanks China for technical support

Mozambique’s Prime Minister, Carlos do Rosário, has thanked China for its technological support and has praised existing co-operation between the two countries, China Radio International (CRI) reported.

Mr do Rosário was speaking on Monday at a ceremony to mark the completion of the first phase of a project for Mozambique’s National Data Centre.

The newly built centre, at the Science and Technology Park in the Manhiça district of Maputo Province, has been funded through loans provided by the Export-Import Bank of China, Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua has reported. Chinese companies have also been involved in the project, CRI added on Monday.

Mr do Rosário said information collected by the country’s National Data Centre would be used to help increase food production, as well as to improve public services and healthcare in Mozambique.

China’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Sun Jian, also took part in the centre’s inauguration ceremony. He said – as quoted by CRI – that China would continue to strengthen co-operation with the African nation.

Mr Sun Jian also noted that the Centre was an important result of trade co-operation between the two countries and would contribute to social and economic development in the African nation.
