Mozambique hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in fields that include defence and security, Xinhua reports.
The Government-run news agency reported the comments of Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi after his meeting with State Councilor and Defence Minister Chang Wanquan in Maputo on Tuesday. Mr Nyusi was quoted as saying Mozambique valued highly its ties with China and that both sides were working to take the Mozambique-China relationship to a new level.
Mr Chang said his tour of Mozambique focused on the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries during Mr Nyusi’s Mainland China visit last year. Both countries should consolidate bilateral ties and enrich cooperation, he said.
The O País newspaper reports that Mozambique’s Minister of National Defence Atanasio M’tumuke also met Mr Chang, who pledged RMB60 million (US$8.84 million) to build barracks in Maputo.
