Nearly 50 Chinese-owned firms registered in Guinea-Bissau

A total of 46 Chinese-owned firms have registered in Guinea-Bissau in the past five years, show data from the country’s Company Formalisation Centre.

According to the official figures, the 46 Chinese-owned firms operate in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, catering, clothing retailing, cosmetics and computer products. The data cited by online media Macauhub show records for the period May 2011 to May 2016.

Of the foreign firms newly registering entities in Guinea-Bissau in the first five months of this year, many were Chinese. China was ranked second for such registrations in that period, with India having the most, the media outlet reported. Six Chinese-owned firms were set up in the January to May period compared with 11 new companies with Indian ownership, the figures showed.

Last year 10 Chinese-owned firms were established in Guinea-Bissau.
