New Sino-Brazilian satellite begins journey to launch pad

Testing in Brazil of China-Brazil Earth Resource Satellite-4A (CBERS-4A) has finished and the device has been sent to China, O Globo reports.

The Brazilian newspaper says CBERS-4A is on its way to the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in northern China, where it will be tested some more before being launched into orbit later this year.

The report says CBERS-4A will be the sixth satellite in the CBERS series to be launched, and will replace CBERS-4.

CBERS-4A is meant to collect information about the planet for purposes such as monitoring the environment in general and the weather in particular, and making maps.
