Non-financial FDI to China up 7.8 pct in March

Non-financial foreign direct investment (FDI) to China increased 7.8 percent year-on-year to 82.3 billion yuan (US$12.9 billion) in March, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday.

In the first three months of this year, FDI in China hit 224.21 billion yuan, up by 4.5 percent from the previous year, said the Ministry, quoted by Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua.

FDI in the service sector reached 154.38 billion yuan in the first quarter, accounting for 68.9 percent of the total inflow, official figures showed. The investment inflows in the high-tech service sector in particular more than doubled year-on-year to 25.52 billion yuan in the January to March period, said the Ministry.

China’s economic planning body, the National Development and Reform Commission, said in March it hoped FDI in China would reach at least US$128 billion in 2016, which would represent a 1.35-percent increase from US$126.3 billion in 2015.
