Official calls for Chinese aid to Africa to be tweaked

An official of the São Tomé e Príncipe Ministry of Finance, Wilson Bragança, has called for the China-Africa Capacity Co-operation Fund to be better tailored to suit smaller, insular African countries, STP-Press reports.

The São Tomé e Príncipe news agency says Mr Bragança made the call at the Seventh China-Africa Think Tank Forum, held in Beijing last week.

The report quotes Mr Bragança as telling the gathering of Chinese and African officials: “Beyond financial support, China also has a lot of experience in various areas to share with the African continent.”

The annual value of Sino-African trade is now 200 times what it was 40 years ago, and the value of Chinese investment in Africa is now US$110 billion, having been zero 40 years ago, STP-Press quotes Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong as telling the gathering.
