Official thinks Chinese GDP growth could exceed 6.5 pct in 2018

Chinese National Development and Reform Commission Deputy Secretary-General Fan Hengshan has forecast conditionally that the rate of growth in Chinese gross domestic product will exceed 6.5 percent next year, the People’s Daily reports.

The Chinese Communist Party newspaper quotes Mr Fan as saying: “If Chinese economic growth in 2017 reaches 6.8 or 6.9 percent, the growth rate for 2018 will be no lower than 6.5 percent.”

Mr Fan believes the Chinese economy will maintain its expansionary momentum for several years because of government efforts and market factors, the People’s Daily says.

The annual rate of growth in the Chinese economy in the first nine months of this year was 6.9 percent.
