Over 80,000 take Beijing-Lisbon direct flights in first year

Beijing Capital Airlines says over 80,000 passengers flew between Beijing and Lisbon in the first year of its scheduled direct service between the cities.

A written statement issued by the airline puts the seat occupancy rates of its thrice-weekly return service at roughly 80 percent in the low season and over 95 percent in the peak season.

The low-cost airline, a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines Co. Ltd, describes its unique service as important for Sino-Portuguese relations, increasing co-operation in several areas.

The flights originate in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou and make a stopover in Beijing to pick up more passengers, including passengers from Macao, before going on to Lisbon, and vice-versa, Beijing Capital Airlines says.
