Portugal, China give undertakings to collaborate more

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and a senior official of the Chinese Communist Party, You Quan, have exchanged promises to increase Sino-Portuguese co-operation in economic and financial matters and in the fields of science and technology, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says they did so in a meeting last week in Lisbon.

The report quotes Mr You as saying the Chinese Communist Party wished for more contact with Portuguese political parties.

Mr You also called for more Sino-Portuguese trade and other forms of economic exchange.

China and Portugal can co-operate more closely under the auspices of the Chinese Belt and Road initiative, Xinhua quotes the Portuguese president as saying.
