Portugal says Chinese President to visit in 2018

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Portugal this year, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says Mr Sousa made the announcement during a visit to the United States, where he was due to meet US President Donald Trump.

Mr Sousa said of Mr Xi’s visit: “We will receive the president of another country that is also very important – at the end of the year – because we have this capacity for dialogue and understanding.”

Mr Sousa said last November that he hoped Mr Xi could visit Portugal this year, Lusa says.
