The annual rate of growth in Portuguese gross domestic product was 2.8 percent in the first quarter of this year, the fastest since 2007, Statistics Portugal says.
Data published by the government’s statistics bureau indicates that the rate of GDP growth was 1.0 percent in the first quarter, accelerating from 0.7 percent in the fourth quarter of last year.
The figures indicate that growth in exports and investment accelerated in the first quarter of this year, while growth in private consumption slowed.
The economy grew by 1.4 percent last year and the government expects it to grow by 1.8 percent this year.
