Portugal’s homeware exports to China grow by about half in one year

Portugal’s exports of furniture, home textiles, lighting and household appliances to China were worth €18.6 million (US$23.05 million) last year, an increase of 49 percent in one year, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.

The report cites figures from the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal.

Celso Lemos, the founder of Portuguese homewares retailer Abyss & Habidecor, told Lusa last Friday that the company is present in 25 mainland cities and its sales to China are growing by about 20 percent a year.

“I believe that in the next five years China will be one of the main markets for our products,” he told Xinhua, a news agency run by the Chinese government, at an event in Beijing.

China was the 15th biggest market for this category of exports from Portugal last year.
