Portuguese, Chinese geoparks to promote each other  

The northern Portuguese municipality of Arouca and the central Chinese city of Zhangjiajie have agreed to promote the geopark in Arouca among the people of Zhangjiajie and the geopark in Zhangjiajie among the people of Arouca, Lusa reports.

Portuguese news agency quotes Mayor of Arouca José Artur Neves as saying the agreement between the local governments, due to be signed today, will mean “mutually beneficial opportunities for the communities, citizens and organizations in their territories”.

The mayor said the agreement would “increase visits to the Arouca Geopark by Asian groups, who are the ones that most appreciate nature tourism”.

The agreement commits the managers of the respective geoparks to work together from time to time, Lusa says.
