Portuguese city of Espinho to launch mandarin classes in primary schools

A pilot scheme to offer Mandarin in primary schools in the Portuguese city of Espinho will commence next year, the Diário de Aveiro newspaper reports.

Espinho has signed an agreement with the Confucius Institute at University of Aveiro.

“The People’s Republic of China is a world power with which we have centuries-old relationships and which also has strong trade relations across the world, especially with Portugal and Portuguese-speaking Countries in Africa,” Espinho’s mayor Joaquim Pinto Moreira told the Lusa news agency.
