Portuguese envoy eyes more Chinese investment in his country

New Portuguese Ambassador to China José Augusto Duarte would like to see more Chinese investment in manufacturing and ports in his country, Dinheiro Vivo reports.

The news website quotes Mr Duarte as saying Portugal has expertise in making car components, and that a deal to help meet Chinese demand for parts for electric cars would be welcome.

Mr Duarte said Chinese investment in Portuguese ports could bring his country within the ambit of the Chinese One Belt, One Road initiative.

He said Portugal must try to reduce its large trade deficit with China by increasing its exports.

Exports of luxuries have potential for growth, Dinheiro Vivo quotes the ambassador as saying.
