Portuguese govt forecasts 1.9 pct economic growth in 2019

The Portuguese Ministry of Finance now forecasts that the Portuguese economy will expand by 1.9 percent this year, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says that, in contrast, the government budget for this year assumed annual growth of 2.2 percent.

The report says the latest forecast is contained in an economic planning document, which also forecasts annual growth rates of 1.9 percent next year, 2 percent in each of the two following years and 2.1 percent in 2023.

The finance ministry thinks the rate of growth this year will slow from 2.1 percent last year because of slower increases in domestic demand, in private consumption and in public consumption, Xinhua quotes the planning document as saying.
