Portuguese-owned Farfetch buying Chinese marketing agency

Portuguese-owned online retailer of high-end fashions Farfetch UK Ltd says it is buying Chinese marketing agency CuriosityChina to increase its sales in China, Bloomberg reports.

The news agency quotes a written statement issued by Farfetch as saying CuriosityChina and its services division will be integrated with a view to increasing sales of luxuries, such as shoes bearing the Manolo Blahnik brand, on the Tencent Holdings Ltd messaging service, WeChat.

The statement quotes the founder of Farfetch, José Neves, as saying: “With this partnership, Farfetch can now provide plug-and-play access for luxury brands to expand rapidly in China via an integrated platform servicing Chinese consumers.”

Last year Chinese e-commerce company JD.com Inc. invested US$397 million in Farfetch.
