Portuguese-speaking, Chinese judges put their minds together

The judiciaries of China and the Portuguese-speaking world have instituted an arrangement for mutual co-operation and exchanges, the Chinese Supreme People’s Court has announced.

The court issued a written statement saying senior judicial officials from Mainland China and Macao, and from Angola, Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and Sao Tome and Principe attended a ceremony to inaugurate the arrangement, which was held in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.

The statement quotes Chinese Chief Justice Zhou Qiang as saying the arrangement could enhance exchanges between the courts of China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, and deepen mutual understanding and trust, so helping the socio-economic development of all the countries involved.

The main purpose of the arrangement is to promote exchanges and co-operation between the judiciaries of China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, the Chinese Supreme People’s Court quotes Portuguese Supreme Court President António Henriques Gaspar as saying.
