Portuguese unemployment falls to 7.4 pct in March

Provisional official data indicate that the unemployment rate in Portugal fell to 7.4 percent in March, the lowest since April 2004, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency, citing figures compiled by the Portuguese National Statistics Institute, says the revised rate of unemployment in February was 7.6 percent.

The latest unemployment figures are “particularly positive”, Xinhua says, because the early months of the year are usually the low season for tourists in Portugal, where the tourism business is a big employer.
