Promising Chinese footballer joins Portuguese club on loan

Promising Chinese football player David Wang Jiahao has joined Sporting Clube de Portugal on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers of England until the end of the current season, the South China Morning Post reports.

The Hong Kong newspaper says 18-year-old Wang had only just begun a four-and-a-half-year contract with Wolves, an English Premier League side owned by Chinese conglomerate Fosun International, after being acquired from Spanish third division side Jumilla.

Wang will play for the Sporting reserve team to begin with, while he waits for a permit to work in Britain, the South China Morning Post says.

Separately, the Chinese website Sina News reports that Wang has been selected for the Chinese national team, because he has Chinese nationality even though he was born in Spain, where he was later included in the Spanish under-19 football squad.
